Explosions
Planetarium (2022)
The Planetarium of Copenhagen conveys knowledge of astronomy in the form of films, exhibitions, lectures and events. The heart of the Planetarium is the enclosing 8K Dome - the largest screen in Northern Europe.
The light and sound installation "Explosions" is a sensorial take on complex datasets from NASA and the European Space Agency.
Occupying half of the echo forming outercircle area of the Planetarium, the 40 meter long installation leads the spectators through different types of space phenomena all relating to the main theme.
The Soundscape is an integral part of the installation, as it sonically manifests the different phenomena in the echoing concrete passageway.
By engulfing the spectators in different sound compositions, they are mentally positioned inside the supernova, floating among the shooting stars or looking down on meteor strikes.
The data is visualized in different ways to create a subtle balance of being so true to the data as possible while also creating a spatial visual experience.
• The date of the asteroids has been converted into a chronology in the installation itself.
• The closer the visual effects are to the center of Planetarium, the closer the asteroid will be to Earth.
• The light intensity represents the speed.
• The size of the asteroid is illustrated by the scale of the graphical shapes.
