Storm 20
Neonsign (2019)
Starting from the history of Copenhagen's many neon signs and combining it with modern instruments, Dark Matters created a new neon work for the historical makerspace STORM20. The artistic grip dates back to 1952 from Alan Turing's mathematical model "reaction-diffusion", which over time has been linked to nature's patterns, such as zebras, cats and certain fish. Outside of scientific research, one uses, among other things, the model for creating organic patterns in generative graphics and is often one of the basic pillars in modern artistic computer graphics.
Since visual coding often tries to restore natural circumstances, a meeting is created between the traditional organic expression and the modern approach to generative art."The colourful pattern on the sign was created by more than 90m neon in the space of 4m2 without a single straight line due to the organic nature of the design. The design allows for 27 unique combinations creating a highly diversity of looks and animations.
