King of Dinosaurs
at Natural History Museum
(2020)
The exhibition King of Dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum of Denmark, is the most impressive dinosaur exhibition to have ever been staged in Denmark. The centrepiece of the exhibit is Tristan Otto – one of the world’s most spectacular Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils. Through him, and a number of other impressive dinosaur fossils, the museum unfolds the story of earth’s past, present and future.
To make the various fossils and their static poses come alive, Dark Matters developed a set of subtly animated 'prehistoric' backdrops, for each of the rooms.
These 3D environments were created in close collaboration with a palaeontologist at the museum, to ensure the correct plantlife was present in each of the different dioramas. And finally the scenographic animations were projected onto transparent fabrics, adding a subtle sense of depth.
For the final room we turned a detailed point cloud of the amazing Tyrannosaurus Rex, into an animated experience on two adjoining walls. Where the audience could delve into the minute details of the fossil and travel through the entire creature, from the deadly jaws to the tip of the tail. The experience was enhanced by a ethereal synth soundtrack by our dear Rasmus Zwicki.
